Submitting Final Grades in Canvas

Introduction

In Canvas, students' final grades are submitted by selecting the Submit Final Grades to MySPC button in the Gradebook in each individual course. You may be accustomed to finding this button in the Faculty Tools, but in Canvas, it's in the Grades tab of your class. This guide reviews the process for submitting your students' final letter grades to SPC's enrollment and student information system (MySPC).

  8. Evaluate Student Grades: The evaluate student grades screen is where you override any final grades and provide comments. If you'd like to override a final letter grade (for instance, round an 89.5% up to an A, instead of a B), you will:
    1. Navigate to the Grade Override column
    2. Check the box next to the student whose grade you're overriding
    3. Input the numeric grade you'd like to assign the student (in this example, it would be an 80% to assign the student a B).
    4. Verify that the correct overriden letter grade is there.
    5. Add comments.
    6. Select the Select Students to be Submitted button at the bottom.
Evaluate student grades with an override column
  9. Select Students to be Submitted: Review grades for accuracy and confirm that any Grade Overrides are showing correctly with comments (1) and then select Confirm and Submit (2). You can select the checkbox at the top to select all students, or you can select certain students and only submit grades for those students.

  10. Confirm and Submit: Check the box next to I am ready to submit my final grades to SPC (1) and then select the Submit Final Grades button (2).

Grade Errors

If you made an error in your grades, and you realize this soon after submitting, contact the Academic Technology Support team via email at atst@spcollege.edu or call us at 727-341-3500. If it is within an hour of submission, we may be able to reset your grades so you can resubmit. If we're not able to reset, then you'll need to submit a grade change form for each student. In any event, please contact us as soon as you notice the error and we will work with you and communicate next steps.

Assigning Incomplete Grade

  1. Review the following guides and ensure you've followed all the proper procedures.
    1. Incomplete Plan for Faculty
    2. Issuing an Incomplete for a Student's Final Grade
    3. Incomplete Request Form Guide
    4. Opening up a Course for a Student with an Incomplete
    5. Share with student: Incomplete Grade Process for Students
  2. Follow the steps above Submitting Final Grade steps 1-7.
  3. Evaluate Student Grades: An incomplete grade is essentially a grade override. Instead of overriding a grade of 79% to 80% to assign a student a B, you're overriding the student's current total grade to assign an imcomplete instead.

  1. Navigate to the Grade Override column
  2. Check the box next to the student whose grade you're overriding to assign an incomplete
  3. Input a grade of 0 for the student
  4. Verify the grade of I for incomplete.
  5. Add comments.
  6. Select the Select Students to be Submitted button at the bottom.
Select the student, type in zero, make sure that I shows up now, and type comments if you want to
