Important note: If your student earned an incomplete in Spring 2025/term 645 in MyCourses, the process is the same, with one extra step: After you filled out the Incomplete Request form, your course content was migrated from MyCourses to Canvas by our LMS team. You received an email from raasch.jennifer@spcollege.edu informing you that your MyCourses content had been migrated to Canvas, and was ready for you to prepare for your student who earned an Incomplete.
Incomplete Step 3: Reopen a Closed Course for a Student who was Issued an Incomplete
Summary: Step three of the Incomplete process is reopening the course for the student who was issued an incomplete.

Incomplete Step 4: Give the Student Access to the Missing Work
Summary: Step four of the incomplete process is a giving the student access to the assignments once you've added them to the incomplete section of the course.
Notes: When setting due dates for assignments in the Incomplete section of your course, they must be no later than 48 hours before the final day of the current semester. For example, if a student received an “I” grade in Spring 2025, the Fall 2025 semester ends on December 12, 2025, so the latest allowable due date would be December 10, 2025.

Incomplete Step 5: Recalculate the Student's Final Grade
Summary: Step five takes place after the student has submitted all of the remaining work for the incomplete, at which time you'll recalculate their final grade.
Even though the course has ended, you still have access to the Gradebook in Canvas. You can enter scores directly into the Gradebook to calculate the student’s updated grade. Just type the student’s new grades into the gradebook, make sure they save, and view the updated final grade. You can also track the incomplete student's grades manually, on a spreadsheet for instance, but we recommend using the Gradebook.

Incomplete Step 6: Submit SPC Grade Change Form
Summary: Once the student has completed all outstanding work and you’ve recalculated their final grade—either using the Canvas Gradebook or manually—you’ll need to submit the official grade change form. You cannot use Canvas to change an incomplete grade to an A-F grade. You must submit this form.

Incomplete Step 7: Remove Student from the Incomplete Section
Summary: After you’ve submitted the grade change survey, you need to remove the student from the incomplete section of your course so they no longer have access.
