Using the Assign To feature to assign work to students in the Incomplete section of your course

Introduction

After you've filled out the Incomplete Request Form, given your student a grade of Incomplete, and added the student to the Incomplete section of your closed course, you still need to grant your student access to his/her work. This guide demonstrates how to do this.

How to Assign To the Incomplete section of your course

  1. Locate the assignments, quizzes, and/or discussion posts that the student needs to finish and Assign To the Incomplete section.
    1. Open the assignment/quiz/discussion and select the Assign To button. Note: You can also find the Assign To settings inside the Edit Assignment settings.
arrow pointing at a button that says Assign To in the top right corner
    2. Scroll down to the Assign Access area and select the +Assign To button.
    3. In the new Assign To box that opens, type or select Incomplete.
      Assign to: incomplete

    4. When you're done, the Assign To box should have Incomplete in the Assign To field. This ensures that all students in the Incomplete section have access to the content. You do not need to put a due date, but you can.
Notes: When setting due dates for assignments in the Incomplete section of your course, they must be no later than 48 hours before the final day of the current semester. For example, if a student received an “I” grade in Spring 2025, the Fall 2025 semester ends on December 12, 2025, so the latest allowable due date would be December 10, 2025.

    5. Scroll to the bottom of the Edit Assignment/Quiz/Discussion screen and select Save.
select save to save assignment settings
