How Do I View Concluded Enrollments in a Course in Canvas?

In Canvas, when a student is removed from your course (either dropped, withdrawn, or their enrollment has concluded), their name disappears from the People list by default. However, instructors can still access the student’s profile and view their final grades and submission history using the Prior Enrollments option.

This guide explains how to view completed grades and activity for students no longer actively enrolled in your Canvas course.

View Grades for Concluded Students

  1. Select People from the course navigation menu.
    Navigation menu with "People" highlighted.
  2. Click the Options Menu (three vertical dots ) near the top right of the People page.
Button options in a user interface.
  3. Select View Prior Enrollments from the dropdown.
Menu options for user enrollment settings.
  4. On the Prior Enrollments page, locate the student whose grades you want to view.
Table of prior users with totals.
  5. Click the student’s total to see previous Grades.

This will show the student's grade summary, including final score, completed assignments, and submission details, as they were when the enrollment concluded.

Notes:

  • The View Prior Enrollments option only appears if at least one user has a concluded enrollment.
  • This process works for both manually concluded enrollments and system-processed drops.
  • You can only view data for concluded students—you cannot edit grades or resubmit work.
  • If your course is concluded (past its end date), you may need to temporarily adjust the course end date and participation settings to regain access to features like People and Grades. Contact your institution's Canvas admin if needed.

Important

Reviewing data for dropped or withdrawn students is often necessary for final grade verification, appeals, or academic integrity concerns. While Canvas hides these users from your active roster, the Prior Enrollments feature ensures you still have access to their academic records in your course.
