Screen-casting is the process of recording your computer screen and can include audio. There are a number of studies that show adding screen-casting your course can increase student success. For example, check out: Effects of Screen-casting on the Turkish Undergraduate Students’ Achievement and Knowledge Acquisitions in Spreadsheet Applications (attached below article.)
Snag-It by TechSmith
Faculty can request a Snag-it license to create screen recording and link or embed in your courses. Licenses are limited. Reach out to mycourses4faculty@spcollege.edu to request a license. Snag-it allows you to easily record a section of your screen, or your whole screen of your computer. You can record power points, websites, pages on MyCourses or anything else on the internet. You can also add audio to your screen recording.
Panopto Screen Capture
Panopto is a screen recording, video creation, and video storage product that is available to all SPC faculty and adjuncts. Panopto integrates with MyCourses and you can add videos you create on the Panopto website to your course using the insert stuff button. Panopto has the capability to record your video, your content, your audio, or any combination of the three.
- To use Panopto, you must complete a self-paced, on-demand faculty workshop. If you are not familiar with on-demand workshops, they are courses faculty can take and self-register for. Review this guide on Registering for Online Workshops.
- Once you self-register, you can complete the On-Demand workshop. In the Panopto workshop, you will be asked to complete a survey to activate your Panopto account through the MyCourses Support Team
- Anyone can request a license and use Panopto.
- Panopto does not have advanced video editing abilities or fancy overlays and effects. It is meant for easy use. See the section below on Camtasia for a more advanced video recording/editing software.
And - Panopto does have the ability to embed a clip from a YouTube video and/or a quiz.
