Your first post on a discussion topic will often be made by using the Start a New Thread option. Once you Start a New Thread, others can reply under that thread.
Step-by-Step:
- Click on Course Content for the Navbar
- Click on the Module where the Discussion is located
- Click on the Title of the Discussion then click on the Title of the post you would like to reply to
- Click on Reply to Thread
- Enter a Subject if there is not one shown
- Enter your response
- Click on Post
