If you are choosing to use LockDown Browser & Respondus Monitor, this guide walks you through enabling Respondus Monitor in your participating courses. You can ONLY use LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor with quizzes/tests/exams inside Canvas.

Important Notes for Using Respondus LockDown Browser in Canvas
1. How to Title Respondus LockDown Browser-enabled Quizzes
Be sure to always avoid using the words "Respondus" or "LockDown Browser" or "webcam" in your quiz titles. Rather, just call it "Syllabus Quiz", as an example.
The title amendment our LTI tool adds would then change the title to: Syllabus Quiz - Requires Respondus LockDown Browser + Webcam. If you also put Respondus in the quiz title, then the word Respondus will be in the quiz title two times.
2. Respondus and Chromebook or iPad with Pearson or ALEKS
- Students cannot use a Chromebook or iPad if your quiz is through Pearson - MyMathLab. Students will have to use a computer with Windows or MAC OS.
- Students can use a Chromebook or iPad if your quiz/exam is through ALEKS
- Using Respondus with ALEKS
- Chromebook offers an extension for Chrome. In addition to the extension, you will also need to enable pop-up windows for Canvas.
3. What Respondus LockDown Browser resources can I share with students?
Please share these guides with your students as applicable to your course:
How can students view Respondus LockDown Browser quiz feedback?
Students who go through the Grades menu in Canvas will not be able to see feedback. If they try, they will see a 403 Forbidden error message. Students must go into LockDown Browser to see feedback.
There are two methods for students to see feedback:
Method One:
- Keep LockDown Browser enabled for the exam. Instruct the student to go to quiz, click on the quiz title again to launch LockDown Browser. The student will see To visit attempt history, click here.
- Select here to view the student's attempt history.
- Select the relevant attempt. Feedback will display at the bottom of the page.
Method Two:
Remove the Respondus LockDown Browser requirement after all exam submissions have occurred. Then, students will be able to view feedback in the Grades area.
