Video: What Do These Mean in My Gradebook

I → Incomplete submission
The student started but did not fully submit the assignment. Exclamation Point (!) inside a circle → Late submission
The student submitted after the due date.
Exclamation Point (!) without circle → Needs grading / Manual grade required
For assignments that cannot be auto-graded (like essays).
Paper icon → Submitted assignment
Indicates the student has uploaded or entered a submission.
Chain link icon → External tool submission
The student submitted through an LTI tool (e.g., Turnitin, Panopto, or publisher content).
Speech bubble icon → Submission comment
The student or instructor has left a comment on the submission.
Eye icon with a slash → Hidden grade
The grade is currently hidden from students.
Green check mark → Complete
The assignment or activity is marked complete.
Dash (—) → No submission
The student has not submitted and nothing is graded.
Lock icon → Locked assignment
The assignment is closed and no further submissions are allowed.
Dot (●) → Not graded yet
Canvas has registered a submission but no grade has been entered.
