How to Setup and Use the Copyleaks Course Data Tool for Canvas

The Copyleaks Course Data tool provides easy access to instructors to review analytics.

It is optional. You do not need to install it and use it. However, if you are interested in seeing the analytics for your entire course (ie: the amount of plagiarism and/or AI usage across the board) or the analytics for all submissions of one assignment (ie: how much plagiarism and/or AI is used in a particular essay), then this tool may be a good fit for you.

How to Install Copyleaks Course Data Tool in your course:

  1. Login to Canvas and navigate to the course in which you'd like to use the Copyleaks Course Data tool.

  2. Add a module. Call it Copyleaks Course Data Module.

Button labeled "+ Module" in blue and yellow.

  3. Go to the Copyleaks Assessment Tool Module. Select the + plus sign in the top right corner to add an item to the module.

  5. From the External Tool menu, scroll, select Copyleaks Course Data (Optional). A dialog box will appear that says Creating AI Assessment Overview. When the box disappears, the scan tool is generated. Select the blue Add Item button in the bottom righthand corner.

  6. At first, it will be named AI Assessment Overview. Select the three vertical dots, then select Edit and rename the tool Copyleaks Course Data Tool.

  7. This is a screenshot of a Copyleaks Course Data Module with the AI Assessment Overview tool inside. In the screenshot, the module and tool are unpublished. Please make sure to keep this module and tool unpublished. Students should not see this. By default, the module and the tool are unpublished and they will remain unpublished. However, if you ever select the Publish All option at the top of your course, you will need to locate the Copyleaks Course Data Module and manually unpublish (hide from students).

What the Publish All option looks like:

If your Copyleaks Course Data Module has a green arrow inside, that means it's published, and students can see it. To unpublish it, select the green arrow, and select Unpublish module and all items from the dropdown menu.
