Great news! Rubrics can be used with Copyleaks assignments in Canvas! This knowledgebase guide demonstrates how to configure an assignment for Copyleaks, add a rubric to the assignment, add the Copyleaks assignment to a module, and grade it using a rubric.
How do I configure an assignment for Copyleaks?
- Navigate to your course in Canvas.
- Select Assignments from the Navigation menu.
- Click the + Assignment to create a new assignment.
- Fill in the title, description, points, etc. for the assignment, and scroll down to the Plagiarism Review field. Change it from None to Copyleaks Plagiarism Checker.
- Configure the Copyleaks settings in the Quick Actions box. Click Advanced Settings if needed for more options. Click Save.
How do I add a rubric to a Copyleaks assignment?

Select the +Rubric button.
- Create or add a rubric for the assignment. See How do I add a rubric to an assignment for additional information.
- Make sure to select Use this rubric for assignment grading.
How do I add the Copyleaks assignment to my module of choice?
- Go to Modules, find the appropriate module for the assignment, click the +.
- From the add item menu, choose Assignment.
- This will pull up the list of assignments in your course. Select the assignment you want to add to this module, and then select add item. Remember that you must publish both the module and the assignment for students to see them. If you are still working on them, leave them unpublished so students cannot see them.
How can I grade my Copyleaks assignment with a rubric?
- Once your students have submitted work, open Speedgrader and click view rubric.
Note: After the rubric opens, you may need to drag the center column to the left in order to see the rubric clearly. - In this screen, you can view the Copyleaks originality report score (1), grade by selecting the appropriate score in the attached rubric (2), write comments (3), and submit grade (4), submit assessment button.
