General Questions

What is Copyleaks, and why is it used?
Copyleaks is a plagiarism and AI detection tool that helps ensure academic integrity by analyzing assignments for originality. It scans submitted work against internal databases, internet resources, and AI-generated content.

 

What types of content can Copyleaks scan?
Copyleaks can scan text documents, handwritten files (if submitted digitally), and other standard file formats. For Canvas, handwritten submissions must first be converted into an acceptable digital format.

 

Does Copyleaks store submitted assignments?
Yes, assignments are securely stored in the Copyleaks database. This allows future submissions to be compared against previously submitted work to detect self-plagiarism.

  • HTML, HTM, TXT, CSV, RTF, XML, MD

Non-Textual Files:

  • PDF, DOCX, DOC, PPTX, PPT, ODT, CHM, EPUB, ODP, PPSX, PAGES, XLSX, XLS, LaTeX

Source Code Files:

  • TS, PY, GO, CS, C, H, IDC, CPP, HPP, C++, H++, CC, HH, JAVA, JS, SWIFT, RB, PL, PHP, SH, M, SCALA, CSS

 

Textual File Types (Online Submission):
All supported file types can be submitted online or via URL.

 

Image File Types (OCR):

  • PDF, DOCX, GIF, PNG, BMP, JPG, JPEG
    Note: Files must contain textual content and can only be uploaded.

What do the colored highlights on Canvas assignments mean?
The colors represent the originality score:

  • Blue: No matching text
  • Green: 1-24%
  • Yellow: 25-49%
  • Orange: 50-74%
  • Red: 75-100%

Are Copyleaks settings retained when copying or importing assignments in Canvas?
No, Copyleaks configuration settings are not retained when duplicating, importing, or copying assignments. Settings must be reconfigured manually.

 

Does Copyleaks work with Canvas Blueprint courses?
Yes, but LTI configurations may become misconfigured after a Blueprint sync. Verify that Copyleaks is successfully integrated after syncing.

 

Can students submit handwritten assignments?
