This guide warns against setting dates on Discussion Forums and why.
Instructors should never set dates on Discussion Forums. Discussion Forums are categories of discussions meant or organize like topics. Discussion topics are where your students will post their contributions and replies.
The dates set on discussion forums will override any dates you have set on individual discussion topics contained in the forum. This can cause real confusion for the students and instructors.
Because Discussion Forums are categories of types of discussions, you should never set start or end dates on forums as a best practice.
