MyCourses allows you to set any combination of Start, End, or Due Dates on content items and learning activities. Different professors have different preferences on how to structure the delivery of their course.
Should I set a Start, End, and Due date on everything?
The simple answer is no. You can set a start date but not a due or end date or you can set up start and end dates but not due dates. You can set up an end date but not a start or due dates. It is just important to think about what your goal is when setting the dates based on how each of the date types behave (Review the tutorial on the Differences between the Dates).
- In fact, you do not need to set any dates if you wish. Keep in mind if you do not set any dates, the content including the Dropboxes, quizzes, and discussions are open the entire term.
- The important point is to keep in mind when setting dates is that you are not negatively affecting the student's experience, but also leaving time for you to grade student work before final grades are due.
