Set the Submission & Completion Options

Submission and Completion options for a dropbox control how a student submits to a dropbox and how they are assessed. For example, assignment type and number of files that can be submitted.

Step-by-Step:

  1. Click on Submission Review on the Navbar.
  2. Click Dropboxes.
  3. Click on the dropdown arrow dropdown example.png to the right of the dropbox you would like to edit.
  4. Click on Edit Folder.
  5. Click on Submissions & Completion on the top right side of the screen to expand this section of settings.
  6. Adjust Submission & Completion settings. Here is a guide to each:

    Setting: Description:
Assignment Type This will default to an individual submission type unless groups have already been set up for this course. See guide linked below on groups.
Category Select an existing Dropbox category to associate this Dropbox with. See guide below on the Bulk Edit feature to create a new Dropbox Category.
Submission types File submission requires the student to submit an attachment such as a Word document or PDF, whereas text submission allows students to type their assignment in a text box in the Dropbox (no attachment).
Files Allowed Per Submission Number of files allowed to be uploaded (multiple vs. only one). Unlimited means students can upload one or more files per submission.
Submissions Limits the number of submissions allowed or kept. Only one submission allowed will restrict the student from uploading to the dropbox folder multiple times.

  7. Once you have adjusted the submission settings, click Save and Close

Note: There are two less-commonly selected submission types for Dropboxes to consider:
    1. On Paper submissions can be selected when the assignment was provided to the instructor outside of MyCourses (handed directly or emailed).

    2. Observed submissions can be selected if the student conducted a presentation as their submission, either virtually or in person.
