This guide reviews building your own points-based gradebook from scratch. For more information on this type of gradebook, consult the guide Understanding a Points Gradebook.
Create Grade Categories (optional but encouraged):
- Click on Grades on the Navbar
- Click on New
- Click on Category
- Enter a Title/Name for the category (For example; Homework, Quizzes, etc.)
- Click on Save and Close
- Repeat Steps 2-5, to create all needed Categories
Creating Grade Items:
- Click on New
- Click on Item
- Click on Numeric
- Enter a Title/Name for the Grade Item (For example; Homework #1, Test #1, it is good practice to name the grade item the same as the actual content item)
- Under Category, click on the drop-down arrow
- Click on the Category, where you would like the grade item to be located
- Under Maximum Points, enter the total the grade item is worth
- Click on Save and Close
- Repeat steps 1-8, for each grade item
