Updated 08/01/24
Overview
With the latest MyCourses (LMS) update, users will now receive notifications when zipping and unzipping files in the Manage Files area. This enhancement aims to improve user experience by providing real-time feedback on file management processes.
Key Features
-
Background Processing:
- Zipping Files: When users add (zip) files into a ZIP archive, the process now runs in the background. This allows users to continue working without waiting for the process to complete.
-
Unzipping Files: Similarly, extracting (unzip) files from a ZIP archive also runs in the background.
-
Notification Dialog:
- A new dialog appears when users initiate a zipping or unzipping process. It confirms that the operation is running in the background and advises that users will be notified once the process is complete.

-
Update Alerts:
- Once the zipping or unzipping process is complete, a notification appears in the Update alerts (the bell icon) area. This notification includes details such as the file name, location, and the time the notification was sent.
Benefits
- Improved Workflow: Users can continue their work without interruptions, enhancing productivity.
- Real-Time Feedback: Notifications provide immediate feedback on file management operations, ensuring users are aware of the status of their files.
Example Notifications

Previous Process
Previously, adding files to a ZIP archive was not a background process, and users had to wait for the process to complete without any notification. Additionally, the notification for unzipping files appeared in the Subscription alerts area, which is now streamlined to Update alerts for consistency.
