You may find it necessary to drop grade items from a category in your grade book. There are two options when dropping grade items from a category: Assign a number of the highest scoring items to drop per user. Or, assign a number of lowest scoring items to drop per user (recommended).
WAIT UNTIL THE END OF TERM TO SET DROPPING: If you set up your gradebook categories to drop grade items before there are any grades entered, the first grades you enter in the category will drop automatically, leaving your gradebook unbalanced. This will continue until you have entered all of your grades; only then will the grade items in each category drop.
There are two conditions that must be met before you can drop a lowest Grade Item:
1. The grade item must be in a category
2. The weights of all grade items with the category must be distributed across all items.
Step-by-Step:
- Click on Grades on the Navbar
- Click on the drop-down arrow next to the grade category the grade item is located in
- Click on Edit Grade Item
- Under distribution, check the box next to Distribute points across all items
- Enter the Points per item in that category
- Enter the number of grade items to drop:
- Number of highest non-bonus items to drop for each user
- Number of lowest non-bonus items to drop for each user
- Number of highest non-bonus items to drop for each user
- Click on Save and Close
