Screen Capturing Software
Screen capturing software allows you to capture either a still image or video of what is happening on your computer. This is a great tool for demonstrating how to work within a specific program, how to navigate a website, etc.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Videos should never be loaded directly into Canvas. If you are planning to convert content to video (i.e. lectures), please make sure to also register for our short (~30 minute) online, self-paced workshops. These are sites that will allow you to store your videos and then quickly embed them into Canvas.
Camtasia (TechSmith)
Camtasia is a great tool for making videos of either your screen (as with SnagIt). Unlike SnagIt, Camtasia offers additional, advanced video editing features such as annotations. Camtasia also integrates well with PowerPoint so you can narrate over existing PowerPoint presentations.
- Register for our short, online, self-paced Introduction to Camtasia to request a license and download information
SnagIt (TechSmith)
Snagit is a simple-to-use screen recording capture software. It allows you to capture screen grabs (i.e. still images of your screen) as well as video of your screen.
- There are a limited number of Snagit licenses available to SPC faculty. Please reach out to atst@spcollege.edu if you are interested in obtaining a license. Training may be required prior to authorization.
Webinar Software
The webinar software allows you to host a presentation or lecture online using either video or text-only chat. Using webinar software, participants can share audio and/or video, documents, or your screen. SPC offers free licenses for Zoom webinars.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Videos should never be loaded directly into Canvas. If you are planning to record your webinar, please make sure to also register for Panopto On-Demand Training. Storage space is limited in Canvas, so you must store your videos in Panopto and then embed them into Canvas.

Video Storage
Panopto
Video storage is an important component if you plan on creating your own videos for your courses. You never want to upload videos directly into Canvas. Instead, you want to place the videos on Panopto. Once there, you can quickly add the videos into your course from Panopto.
YouTube
Youtube is a free, widely used video storage site where you can quickly upload and auto-caption your videos. Videos can then be link or embedded within your course in Canvas. You can make your videos "Unlisted" so that they do not appear public on the main YouTube search. It will only show for students to which you provide the link.
Panopto - Register for our online, self-paced (~30 minute) Introduction to Panopto course.
Panopto - is a screen recording, video creation, and video hosting software that integrates with Canvas. It's a college-licensed video storage site where you can quickly upload and auto-caption your videos. Videos can then be link or embedded within your course in Canvas. Panopto is private so only students to which you provide the link or embed the video will be able to see your videos.
Panopto replaced Ensemble in April of 2022. All faculty members including adjuncts are eligible for a Panopto Account.
Panopto lets you upload or create videos, edit and add captions, and then share with students via a link or by adding the video directly to a course using the Insert Stuff button.
