If you want students to review past quiz questions without reopening the original graded assessment, you can create a duplicate quiz and convert it into a study tool. In Canvas, this process is quick and preserves all original questions.
This method allows you to reuse an existing quiz while preventing additional graded attempts. The copied version becomes an ungraded, unlimited-attempt review resource for students.
NOTE: If you Copy a Respondus quiz, Make sure to remove Respondus Lockdown Browser - Click Lockdown Browser (located in Course Navigation) > Select "The Newly Copied Quiz" > Then disable Respondus.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Locate the Original Quiz & Copy the Quiz
Go to your course
A. Click Quizzes. Find the quiz you want students to review.
B. Click the three-dot menu ( ⋮ ) next to the quiz name
C. Select Duplicate
Once copied, locate the new quiz in your quiz list.
3. Rename the Copied Quiz
Open the copied quiz and update the title to clearly indicate its purpose.

“Quiz 1 – Review” or “Midterm Study Quiz”
4. Set the Quiz as Ungraded
In the quiz settings:
- Change the grading points to 0
- Select "Do not display in gradebook or the student's grade page"
This ensures the review quiz does not affect student grades.

Set "Assign to" everyone or specific students for review purposes.
Select Build.
6. Allow Unlimited Attempts and Feedback
Under quiz settings:
-
Select Settings
-
Enable Allow Multiple Attempts

-
Click Return
This allows students to retake the quiz as often as needed and learn from their answers.
7. Add the Quiz to a Module
To make the review quiz easy to access:
- Go to Modules
- Click +Module
- Name The Module "Review Quizzes Module" or Use your Own Naming Convention
- Select your review quiz
Be sure to publish both the module and the quiz (green checkmarks) so students can view it.
