Frequently Asked Questions about Yuja Panorama

Q: I remediated my course to 90% and when I copied it over, it's back to the original, lower score. What happened?

A: Please make sure you are following the Canvas Course Copy instructions. If you follow these instructions, the remediations should stick.

Tips:

  1. Wait: Once you've remediated a course in YuJa Panorama, give it some time before copying it into another course.
  2. Verify Accessibility after Import: Always use YuJa Panorama to review and compare course accessibility with the destination/new course.
  3. Standardize on Templates: For master courses that get cloned frequently, build accessibility checks into your QA cycle so alt text is reapplied before publishing.
  4. File Naming Conventions: Encourage descriptive file names for images, so that if alt text drops, at least the filename provides context. This is not a perfect solution, but if there's no alt text on an image of an arrow pointing to the Submit Assignment button, submitassignmentbutton.jpg is better than “image123.jpg.
  5. If you remediate your course and then copy the course and the remediations don't stick, please submit a Course Reset request for the copied course, and we can help you try again.

Q: Faculty receives the major error message "This Youtube video is not publicly available and either the video is publicly available, and it's a glitch, or the video is private by design but available to anyone who has the link, ensuring that students in the class can access it.

A: This issue has been resolved. Moving forward, public unlisted YouTube videos will not be flagged. However, if you find this issue, the fix is to reprocess the accessibility report.
select reprocess under "Accessibility Report"

Q: How does YuJa Panorama work with Simple Syllabus?

A: Simple Syllabus is a third party integration, so it is not scanned by YuJa Panorama directly. However, it should be set as an accessible document via the Simple Syllabus platform. If you or your students notice any accessibility issues, please reach out to atst@spcollege.edu

Q: My publisher content is mostly accessible, but not 100%. Should I use YuJa Panorama to remediate?

A: Yuja Panorama does not propose fixes, remediate, or provide steps on how to remediate third party publisher content. TST and IDEAS will not move third party publisher content into our LMS to use Yuja to make it accessible to students. The publisher is responsible for providing accessible content.

Q: Why are all of my videos automatically flagged?

A: YuJa Panorama can't assess accessibility in videos, so initially, you need to go in and manually verify that the videos you're using are accessible. Videos need human-edited, accurate, timely captions. You can click Learn More, then Fix Error, and verify that you have set up captions inside your videos. Once you click "Fix Error" and verify, the YuJa error will be changed to fixed and will no longer impact your accessibility percentage.

Q: How does YuJa Panorama work with quizzes in Canvas?

A: Only the directions of New Quizzes are scanned by YuJa. We recommend the following when creating/revising quizzes:

  • Use very descriptive ALT tags for pictures inside Quizzes
  • Do not create handwritten content for quizzes
  • If you need help making quizzes accessible from a design standpoint, reach out to the Office of Accessibility.
