Simple Syllabus Import from Standard Instructions

For faculty trying to import a Simple Syllabus created by their Course Coordinator, when clicking the import tool, the term they must use is “Development.” All Simple Syllabi for Standard Courses reside in the Development term.

  1. To start, open your course shell in MyCourses

  2. Ensure that you are on the home page of your course

  3. Select Simple Syllabus from the nav bar at the top

In event the Simple Syllabus tab is missing from the nav bar, instructions to enable it may be found at the following FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) link.

Note: You must be the instructor on record to teach the course to see, setup and edit your Simple Syllabus.

Faculty teaching from a Standard Course can copy the syllabus by using the Import tool (see screenshot). You should import the entire syllabus from the related course standard and then edit the information that is specific to you and the course that you are teaching.

Some edits to consider are:

  • Ensuring that Respondus LockDown is toggled off unless you are using it.
  • Ensuring that the 3rd Party Platform under Technology Requirement and Policy is filled in
  • MyCourses schedule dates can be used by instructor, but they may be toggled off if not being used
  • As an option, Course Assignment Schedule may be provided by the instructor
  • As an option, Communication Plan may be provided by the instructor

In Simple Syllabus, anyone can find anyone else’s syllabi by using the Import tool (unless the privacy is set to only students in that class). Faculty can import an entire syllabus or select specific components to import. The copy tool (“Replace with a different syllabus?) is isolated to just that individual’s personal syllabi.
