What You Can Do with Snagit

  • Capture screenshots of your screen, a window, or a region

  • Record short videos with webcam and microphone narration

  • Add annotations, text, arrows, and highlights to screenshots

  • Share directly to email, Microsoft Teams, PowerPoint, Google Drive, or your LMS

 

Taking a Screenshot

To capture an image:

  1. Open Snagit and in the Capture Window, make sure "Image" is selected.

  2. Click the red Capture button or press the shortcut key (usually Print Screen).

Click and drag your mouse to select the screen area you want to capture.

After releasing the mouse, the image opens in the Editor where you can annotate or save it.

 

Recording a Video

To record your screen:

  1. In the Capture Window, select "Video."

  2. Choose whether to include Microphone, Webcam, or System Audio.

  3. Click the red Capture button, then drag to select your screen area.

Click Record to begin.

When finished, click Stop and the recording will appear in the Editor.

Note: Snagit is ideal for short clips (under 15 minutes). For longer videos or lectures, we recommend using Panopto or Zoom.

 

Editing Captures

Once your screenshot or video opens in the Editor, you can:

  • Add text, arrows, shapes, or highlights

  • Crop or resize the image

  • Blur sensitive information

  • Trim the start or end of videos

Use the Tools menu or the toolbar on the right to explore options.

 

Saving and Sharing

To Save your file:

  • Go to File > Save As and choose your file type (e.g., PNG, JPG, MP4).

To Share, click a destination in the upper-right corner of the Editor:

  • Email, Google Drive, Word, PowerPoint, or custom destinations you’ve added

Note: You can also copy your capture and paste it directly into Canvas, Outlook, or other apps.
