Add an Extra Attempt or Reopen a Quiz

Did one of your students get interrupted in the middle of a quiz attempt? This guide will show you how to reopen the attempt or add an additional attempt, so the student can complete the quiz, as well as extend the date for this student, separate from others in a course. 

How to add an additional quiz attempt for a student: 

1. Sign into SPC's Canvas instance and navigate to your class.
   
   
2. Select Quizzes on navigation bar. 
   
   
   
   
3. Select the quiz in question. 
   
   
   
   
4. Scroll down. Select Build. 
   
   
5. Select Moderate from the top menu. 
   
   
   
   
6. Find student in question. Click the pencil on the right to edit the quiz settings for the student. 
   
   
   
   
7. This opens up the Manage current attempt window. From here, you can reopen the original quiz attempt that got interrupted or give the student an additional attempt. If you want to, you can also adjust the time by giving additional time, or removing the time limit.

Need to change the due date?

If your quiz due date has passed, then the quiz is locked to students. If you give a student additional attempts past the due date, you'll need to go in and assign a different due date for that student. 

1. Open the quiz and click edit.
   
   
   
   
2. Scroll to the Assign Access options, and select the +Assign To button at the bottom. 
   
   
   
   
3. This opens a new Assign To menu. In the first box, enter the student who is needs access to the quiz past the class due date. Then, go to the Until box and select a date and time for quiz availability for this student. You do not need to put a due date or Available from date. 
   
   

Now, you have given the student access to the quiz until the date you chose in the Until dialogue box.
