Captioning YouTube Videos - Make your Videos Accessible

The steps below will show you how to edit the auto-captions that are generated by YouTube. YouTube will auto-caption most videos within 24 hours of the video being uploaded. This captioning, however, often requires edits by the user to insert proper grammar, punctuation, and to correct any spelling or transcription errors. 


Captioning YouTube Videos - Make your Videos Accessible: 

  1. Go to https://www.youtube.com
  2. Click on Sign In
  3. Click on Your Videos

  4. Click on YouTube Studio
  5. Click on Videos on the left side
  6. Hover next to the video and click on the pencil

  7. Click on More Options at the top 
  8. Click English by YouTube

    • NOTE: If this video was recently uploaded, the Automatic Captions may not yet be available. For longer videos, it can take up to 24 hours for the automatic captions to appear.

  9. Click on Edit on Classic Studio 
  10. Click on Edit in the top right 
  11. Now make your changes.  You can start and stop the video using the play button
  12. When you have made the necessary changes, click Save Changes
