Recommended Practices
-
Include a Practice Quiz – It is highly suggested that faculty provide students a low-stakes opportunity to test their equipment with Honorlock and to identify any potential issues early. There are two options faculty have for providing a practice quiz.
- Practice Test Provided by Honorlock (No cost to students): Since Honorlock provides this practice quiz, students can take the practice quiz at no cost. Faculty have the ability within the Honorlock LTI to create a Practice Exam for students to get acclimated with the system and ensure they are prepared for when the real testing begins. Follow the Create a Practice Quiz in D2L instructions to create a short practice exam.
- Practice Quiz in MyCourses (Cost to students): Faculty can create their own practice quiz within MyCourses, but it will cost students as it is considered an assessment within MyCourses. Make sure your practice quiz mirrors what students can expect to see in terms of settings. NOTE: If you are testing with a 3rd party (i.e. MyLabs, Cengage, etc.) platform make sure you create a third-party practice quiz in the system and enable Honorlock so students can go through the steps.
- Student Support for Honorlock – The first point of contact should be Honorlock Support. They are able to address many of the most common issues and get the student testing again. https://honorlock.com/support/
- Address Student Privacy Concerns – Provide information to address students' privacy concerns prior to the exam. See this link for more information: Addressing Student Privacy Concerns
- Room Scan Information – Note: that the room scan is only intended for faculty information only. Honorlock does not begin proctoring until the student begins the exam and will not prevent the student from continuing with the exam if they perform an inadequate room scan. It is important that you communicate your room scan expectations to your students prior to the exam as well as the consequences for incomplete room scans.
- Student Instructions – Ensure that you have provided detailed student instructions both before the exam and within the Honorlock settings. Check out the sample student Instructions: Sample Student and Proctor Instructions
